The Department of Computer and Data Science serves as a networking platform for research-oriented professors and doctoral candidates who address issues related to applied computer science and digitalization. Among other topics, the department examines questions of data protection and data security, as well as the integrity, efficiency, and usability of digital systems. It also explores and analyses issues of user-centred visualization, efficient interaction, and system operability.
The Department of Computer and Data Science tackles questions and challenges arising from the processes of digitalization and develops scientifically grounded solutions. It focuses particularly on applied problems in computer science, which often have an interdisciplinary character or can only be addressed through inter- and transdisciplinary methodological approaches.
The department is rooted in the disciplines of engineering, natural sciences, and business informatics. It sees itself as an interdisciplinary research network that promotes collaboration among its members across institutionally established disciplinary boundaries.
The Department of Computer and Data Science was established on June 19, 2020, by resolution of the board, and held its (virtual) founding meeting on June 22, 2020.
The Department of Computer and Data Science supports research-oriented graduates on their path to a doctoral degree. It offers two structured doctoral programs and promotes cooperative doctoral projects.
