Financial Funding Committee for Doctoral Candidates

The Financial Funding Committee for Doctoral Candidates reviews the applications submitted within the various funding programs at the Doctoral School NRW and decides on their approval or rejection. In addition, it addresses questions related to doctoral funding.

Aims and Responsibilities of the Committee

The aim of the Committee is to support outstanding researchers at the Doctoral School NRW by awarding funding contributions that advance their academic careers. Funding is specifically intended for doctoral projects that strengthen the research profile of universities of applied sciences and contribute to addressing societal challenges.

The central responsibilities of the Financial Funding Committee for Doctoral Candidates include:

  • evaluating submitted applications and making final decisions on the approval or rejection of applications for publication and conference grants,
  • evaluating submitted applications and making final decisions on the allocation of doctoral positions to candidates pursuing their doctorates within a doctoral program of the Doctoral School NRW,
  • developing, applying, and communicating a catalog of criteria to ensure transparent evaluation of applications and decision-making in the allocation of funding,
  • establishing deadlines for the submission of applications.

The Committee is accountable to the Executive Board and reports to it once a year on its activities.


Composition

The Committee is composed as follows (gender-equitable representation applies):

  • one member of the Executive Board of the Doctoral School NRW,
  • four professors and four deputy professor members from the departments,
  • four doctoral candidate representatives and four deputy doctoral candidate representatives,
  • one member of the staff of the Doctoral School NRW,
  • one person appointed by the State Staff Council,
  • the Central Gender Equality Officer of the Doctoral School NRW (advisory).

Committee members are appointed for two years by the Executive Board in agreement with the departments. The Committee adopts its own rules of procedure governing its tasks and processes.
