Funding Opportunities at the Doctoral School NRW

The Doctoral School NRW offers a wide range of measures to support doctoral candidates – from conference and publication grants to doctoral positions. The goal is to support doctoral candidates at every stage of their doctoral studies with suitable funding opportunities, enabling them to focus on their research and academic careers.

Financial Funding Committee for Doctoral Candidates

The Financial Funding Committee for Doctoral Candidates reviews the applications submitted within the various funding programs at the Doctoral School NRW and decides on their approval or rejection. In addition, it addresses questions related to doctoral funding.

Doctoral Positions

The awarding of doctoral positions is intended to support excellent early-career researchers on their path toward completing a doctorate. Eligible to apply are doctoral candidates who have been accepted into one of the eight departments of the Doctoral School NRW. Applications for funding are submitted through the supporting university of applied sciences leadership in cooperation with the supervising professor at the Doctoral School NRW.

Publication and Conference Grants

To strengthen the national and international visibility and networking of its doctoral candidates, the Doctoral School NRW provides grants for the publication of research outputs and for conference travel. This funding is available to all doctoral candidates who are members of the Doctoral School NRW.

Short-Term Scholarships

The Doctoral School NRW supports outstanding doctoral candidates by providing interim or completion funding for doctoral projects. This financial support is intended to give doctoral candidates the opportunity to focus on intensive academic work and writing. For the purpose of promoting women in academia, scholarships specifically for women are also awarded.
