Doctoral School Senate

The Doctoral School Senate is the central self-governing body of the Doctoral School NRW. It is responsible for all overarching matters, including the adoption of central regulations.

Members of the Doctoral School Senate

The Senate consists of elected representatives from among the professors, doctoral candidates, and administrative staff of the Doctoral School NRW, with the professors holding the majority of seats. The members of the Executive Board, the directors of the departments, the central Gender Equality Officer, the Representative for Persons with Disabilities or Chronic Illnesses, and the Chair of the Staff Council are non-voting members of the Senate. The term of office for Senate members is three years.

The Senate is a central governing body of the Doctoral School NRW and, pursuant to § 21 (1) of the Administrative Agreement establishing the Doctoral School for Applied Research in North Rhine-Westphalia, has the following responsibilities:

Participation in the election and removal of members of the Executive Board as part of the Doctoral School Election Assembly in accordance with § 6 (5) and (7);
Providing a statement on the Executive Board’s annual report;
Enacting and amending the General Regulations, framework regulations, and other regulations of the Doctoral School NRW;
Endorsing the planning principles as defined in § 18 (3) sentence 1;
Providing recommendations and opinions on the draft of the Doctoral School Development Plan pursuant to § 18 (3), on evaluation reports pursuant to § 5 (2), on the financial plan, and on the principles governing the allocation of positions and funds to the departments;
Providing recommendations and opinions on matters relating to the tasks of the Doctoral School NRW that concern the institution as a whole or are of fundamental importance.
