Research

Economic actors and markets are affected by societal, technological, and political change in two ways. First, they actively shape economic, social, and ecological development and their interactions. Second, they are themselves subject to external influences such as digitalization, increasing complexity, shifts in sales markets, and changes in values, which they must account for more rapidly and comprehensively than ever before.

Against this backdrop, the Department of Business and Markets seeks to describe, explain, and forecast the mechanisms and consequences of such changes while balancing the need for stability and predictability. The findings are then used to derive recommendations for action for businesses, society, and policy.

The department is anchored in various disciplines of economics: business administration, economics, business education, economic psychology, industrial engineering, business law, and business informatics.

The department’s research focuses on the following areas:

  • Key Factors and Work Design in Times of Change
  • Uncertainty, Resilience, and Iinstitutional Change
  • Value Chain and Operations Management
