Board of Supporters
The highest governing body of the Doctoral School NRW is the Board of Supporters, which is composed of representatives—usually the rectors or presidents—of the 20 supporting universities of applied sciences. The Board exercises supervisory authority and provides strategic direction for the Doctoral School NRW.
Composition and Responsibilities of the Board of Supporters
The Board of Supporters consists of the rectors or presidents of the supporting universities of applied sciences, or their designated representatives, and has the following responsibilities as defined in § 15 of the Administrative Agreement establishing the Doctoral School for Applied Research in North Rhine-Westphalia:
- Defining the principles of quality assurance and exercising the corresponding supervisory function;
- Electing the members of the Executive Board as part of the Doctoral School Election Assembly;
- Approving the Doctoral School Development Plan;
- Endorsing the planning principles;
- Approving the financial plan;
- Determining the amount of financial contributions from the supporting universities;
- Approving the enactment and amendment of the General Regulations;
- Providing recommendations and opinions on matters related to the tasks of the Doctoral School NRW that affect the institution as a whole or are of fundamental importance;
- Approving the annual financial statements, deciding on the allocation of any annual surplus or treatment of any annual deficit, and discharging the Executive Board from liability.
