Department of Media and Interactions

Research

The Department of Media and Interactions addresses questions and challenges arising from the increasing presence of media, the networking of media with each other and the change in communication culture and society. It focuses in particular on media and technical interactions between people, people and systems as well as between people and artifacts/practices and thus above all on a human-centered view of interactive systems and media.

The department is anchored in the disciplines of humanities (art, music, theater and media studies; linguistics; literary studies; philosophy); social and behavioral sciences (educational science and educational research; psychology; social sciences; economics), health sciences; computer science as well as systems and electrical engineering. It sees itself as an interdisciplinary research network that promotes joint cooperation between members and affiliates across institutionally established subject boundaries.

The department was established on 19.06.2020 by resolution of the Executive Board and held its (virtual) inaugural meeting on 22.06.2020.

Getting a Doctorate with the Department

The Department of Media and Interactions supports graduates with an interest in research on their path to a doctoral degree. It offers two structured doctoral programs and promotes cooperative doctorates.
