With a record participation of over 50 registrations, the Department Assembly of the “Department of Business and Markets” of the Promotionskolleg NRW took place in Bochum on March 9 and 10, 2026. The high level of interest clearly underscored the department’s dynamic development and vibrant culture.
Following the inspiring opening remarks by the Chairman of the Board, Martin Sternberg, the focus shifted to the further development of research and networking. Several inputs were presented on funding opportunities and PK research colleges. A key highlight of the first day, as always, was the contributions of the doctoral candidates: in short “elevator pitch” formats, they introduced their early-stage doctoral projects, while more advanced research was presented in colloquium sessions and discussed with the audience.
On the second day, the group of professors and doctoral candidates was divided for the first time to work on different topics. The professors focused on “internationalization,” developing potential formats through experience reports and a joint workshop. Meanwhile, the doctoral candidates participated in a workshop led by Natascha Strenger, where they focused on networking among themselves and exchanged ideas—particularly about resources that could support them during their doctoral studies.
After two motivating days of exchange and a shared lunch, the participants said their goodbyes—until they meet again at the retreat in September 2026.
